Cu ocazia împlinirii a 140 de ani de relații diplomatice între România și SUA, ambasadorul american la București, Adrian Zuckerman, a transmis un mesaj în care subliniat relația specială dintre cele două state concretizată prin multiple acțiuni de sprijin reciproc.

Astăzi sărbătorim 140 de ani de relaţii diplomatice între Statele Unite ale Americii şi România. În această zi, în 1880, predecesorul meu, Eugene Schuyler, agent diplomatic şi consul general a fost recunoscut ca reprezentant oficial al Statelor Unite în România. În luna noiembrie a aceluiaşi an, preşedintele Rutherford B. Hayes l-a primit pe colonelul Sergiu Voinescu, trimis special al viitorului rege Carol, la prima misiune diplomatică a României în Statele Unite. De atunci până în prezent, ţările noastre s-au apropiat. După căderea comunismului în 1989, România a considerat Statele Unite partener şi prieten. În 1997, ţările noastre au devenit parteneri strategici; în 2004, România a devenit stat membru NATO. Această relaţie continuă să aducă beneficii ambelor ţări în prezent. De la militari care colaborează umăr la umăr în toată lumea pentru a ne proteja libertăţile, la vizita unei echipe medicale româneşti în Alabama, pentru a-i ajuta pe americani în timpul pandemiei de COVID.
România este unul dintre cei mai apropiaţi aliaţi militari şi economici ai Statelor Unite în Europa.
