Analist politic despre numirea lui Mircea Geoană secretar adjunct al NATO: România joacă un rol important și este importantă pentru Alianța Nord-Atlantică

Jens Stoltenberg, secretarul general al NATO, l-a numit, miercuri, pe Mircea Geoană în funcția de secretar general adjunct al Alianței. Această decizie reprezintă o garanție a bunelor relații pe care le are România cu Statele Unite ale Americii, susține analistul politic Iulian Chifu.

Fiind o poziție care tradițional era ocupată de un reprezentant al SUA, numirea lui Mircea Geoană în funcția de secretar general adjunct al NATO este o confirmare a posturii României în relația transatlantică.

Iulian Chifu: Pe domeniul de Apărare și Securitate, România este importantă pentru alianța Nord Atlantică

„Este o confirmare a posturii României în relația transatlantică, pentru că ocupă locul care tradițional era ocupat de reprezentantul SUA, mai reprezintă și o garanție a bunelor relații pe care le are România cu SUA, și mă refer în mod specific la relația parteneriatului strategic și la încrederea bilaterală prin participarea României dincolo de greutatea strategică, dincolo de numărul populației, de armamente și bugetul Apărării în misiunile NATO, faptul că suntem prezenți în aceste misiuni și după ce am devenit membrii și anterior, toate aceste lucruri arată angajamentul României în domeniul securității și relației cu SUA și înseamnă foarte mult din punct de vedere al simbolisticii și al faptului că pe domeniul de Apărare și Securitate, România joacă un rol important și este importantă pentru Alianța Nord-Atlantică, este importantă pentru principalul finanțator și financiar și din punctul de vedere al cooperării, al trupelor și al capabilităților SUA în cadrul Alianței.”, a declarat pentru mainnews.ro, analistul politic și fostul consilier prezidențial din România, Iulian Chifu.

Întrebat de ce a fost ales Mircea Geoană să ocupe această funcție, Iulian Chifu a răspuns:

„În primul rând este componenta diplomatică care contează. Faptul că este un diplomat, acolo de fapt este o funcție de sprijinire a secretarului general din punctul de vedere al reprezentării și al atingerilor compromisurilor, care se face pe caracteristici de natură diplomatică.”, a explicat el.

Mircea Geoană: Sunt profund onorat să fiu desemnat pentru această poziție

Imediat după confirmarea informației, Mircea Geoană a transmis un mesaj pe Facebook:

„Sunt mândru să fiu desemnat de către Secretarul General NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, că următorul Secretar General Adjunct. Este, deopotrivă, o uriașă provocare și o oportunitate de a reprezenta interesele Alianței noastre, care asigura securitatea a peste 1 miliard de cetățeni. De-a lungul carierei mele diplomatice și politice am promovat legătură transatlantică și integrarea euro-atlantică a României. Sunt profund onorat să fiu desemnat pentru această poziție cheie ce reprezintă, de asemenea, o recunoaștere a importanței contribuții a României în cadrul NATO.
Apreciez, în mod deosebit, susținerea politică și instituțională trans-partinice de care s-a bucurat candidatura mea”.

Mircea Geoană a fost președintele Partidului Social Democrat din aprilie 2005 până în februarie 2010, președinte al Senatului României din decembrie 2008 până în noiembrie 2011, senator, Ambasador al României în SUA și Ministru de Externe în guvernul Năstase.

În prezent este președintele Institutului Aspen România, o asociație non-profit, apolitică. Institutul are ca misiune promovarea unui dialog informat și critic pe diverse teme de interes pentru societatea românească.
