Gafă de proporții a unei deputate USR PLUS: Diana Stoica susține existența unei națiuni moldovenești
Susținătorii curentului „moldovenist” din Republica Moldova primesc o mână de ajutor de unde s-ar fi așteptat mai puțin. Prezentă la Adunarea Parlamentară a Consiliului Europei, deputata USR PLUS Diana Stoica a transmis un mesaj pe pagina personală de Facebook în care vorbește despre viitorul unei așa-numite națiuni moldovenești, diferită de cea română. 
Ce este „moldovenismul”
În esență, susținătorii curentului „moldovenist”, utilizat cu precădere în perioada interbelică și după anexarea Basarabiei de URSS, susțin existența unei națiuni moldovenești, diferită de cea română. De-a lungul timpului au existat două abordări principale.
Moldovenismul etnic pro-rus, al cărui exponent este în prezent Igor Dodon, susține că românii și moldovenii sunt diferiți din punct de vedere etnic și vorbesc, spun susținătorii acestei idei, limbi diferite.
Pe de altă parte, în ultimii ani a izvorât și un curent moldovenist civic, alimentat de două studii realizate în Republica Moldova. Primul dintre ele, „Integrarea grupurilor etnice și consolidarea națiunii civice în Republica Moldova“ a fost realizat de Institutul de Politici Publice în anul 2012. Cel de-al doilea, de dimensiuni mai reduse, „Consolidarea coeziunii sociale și a unei identități comune în Republica Moldova“ a fost publicat în 2018 de Institutul pentru Politici și Reforme Europene. În linii mari, ambele lucrări au plecat de la aceeași idee, în sensul că naționalismul etnic românesc sau cel „moldovenesc“ nu au generat consens în societate, astfel încât ar trebui impusă o viziune civică asupra națiunii. Cadrul teoretic aplicat în aceste studii pivotează în jurul polarității între un naționalism civic, prezentat a fi „naționalismul bun“ și un naționalism etnic, considerat a fi „naționalismul rău“. Autorii primului studiu, citând din Michael Ignatieff, s-au referit la națiunea civică ca la o „comunitate a celor egali în drepturi, uniți de patriotismul pentru un set de practici politice și valori“. În esență, conceptul pivotează în jurul ideii apartenenței prin cetățenie, nu pe etnie. De asemenea, autorii au propus o serie de politici multiculturale în vederea apropierii de Transnistria.
